Artist Statement

I am currently a sophomore at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I am working towards my Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in animation with the goal of earning it in 2014. My work as an animator at this point focuses on believability. I have spent countless hours studying videos and creating movements to animate in 2D, mimicking life in hopes of creating a manufactured reality that the viewer can actually believe. At this stage in my work, I want to have a strong technical background before tackling any large-scale projects that will allow me to explore emotional or thematic issues such as individuality and independence, which are themes I have worked with a lot in the past. As such, I do a lot of experimentation in style and exaggeration. In doing so I will have the ability to work at all points on the spectrum of believability, from a direct interpretation of realism to abstract and surreal movements.
